A website and messaging refresh to match the craft of a 25-year architecture practice.
The Challenge
Peter Morgan has spent 25 years designing historic restorations, custom residences, and hospitality spaces across the Northeast. His portfolio includes AIA award-winning work, adaptive reuse of Revolutionary War-era buildings, and projects across six licensed states.
The core problem: the site created friction between Peter’s real positioning — a highly specialized, award-winning architect with deep expertise in historic preservation and coastal Northeast residential design — and what a prospective client actually experienced.
Existing strengths
- 25+ years of practice, AIA-recognized
- 10+ national and regional awards
- Licensed in 6 states (NY, NJ, PA, CT, MA, ME)
- Active projects in NJ and ME markets
- Deep portfolio of distinctive, naratable work
Core gaps
- Generic tagline with no differentiation
- Color palette mismatched to brand character
- Services buried behind “Show More” toggles
- No clear geographic identity or specialization signal
- No Google Business Profile established for ME location

What I Did
The engagement began with a full audit of the site’s messaging, information architecture, and conversion experience mapped against the firm’s actual differentiators and target clients: coastal homeowners, hospitality developers, and historic property owners across the Northeast.
Messaging & Brand Identity
- Developed a new positioning tagline: Historic Restoration & Purposeful New Design — replacing a generic aspirational phrase with language that names Peter’s specialty and attracts clients already looking for it
- Wrote a new About narrative centering Peter’s third-generation legacy, dual-market practice, and design philosophy
- Restructured the homepage to lead with positioning, followed by a rotating awards ticker, then service categories
Technical & SEO
- Fixed broken mobile phone link
- Updated title tags and meta descriptions with specific, keyword-relevant language
- Implemented Open Graph metadata across all pages
- Set up Google Business Profile to establish local discoverability in both NJ and ME markets
Geographic Identity
- Made the dual-market practice (NJ and ME) explicit throughout — in the About narrative, office footer, and contact section
- Highlighted six-state licensure as a differentiator for prospective clients across the Northeast
Messaging: Before & After
The clearest measure of the shift is in the words themselves.
| Element | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Homepage tagline | Dream. Build. Thrive. | Historic Restoration & Purposeful New Design |
| Hero positioning | [No positioning statement] | Inspired Living Through Crafted Design |
| Page title tag | Morgan Atelier Architecture | Architectural Services in New Jersey and Maine — Modern Architecture — Award-Winning Architect |
| Meta description | We provide exceptional architectural services in New Jersey and Maine. | Prepare for a successful investment through award-winning architecture. We’ll help turn your vision into a well-crafted design, budget, and plan of action. |
| Service categories | Architecture / Planning / Services | Residential Architecture, Historic Preservation & Adaptive Reuse, Hospitality & Gathering Spaces, Sustainable Design, Feasibility & Site Strategy, Interior Architecture |
| About page lead | Team / Awards / Licenses [tabbed, no narrative] | Peter S. Morgan, AIA, is a third-generation architect and preservationist with 25 years of experience… his practice is rooted in the natural materials, scale, and landscape of the Northeast. |
Results
The refreshed site launched in early 2026. Within a 1–2 week engagement, the practice had a digital presence that matched the caliber of its work.
- Sharpened positioning — new tagline and bio copy communicate specialization in historic preservation and adaptive reuse
- Simplified navigation — four-page structure replaced a confusing multi-section layout
- Surfaced credentials — 10+ awards visible via scrolling ticker; six-state licensure prominently displayed
- Implemented SEO essentials — title tags, meta descriptions, and Open Graph metadata updated across all pages
Key Takeaways
Specificity is a competitive advantage. “Historic Restoration & Purposeful New Design” attracts the right client in a way that “Dream. Build. Thrive” couldn’t. It immediately communicates the concept of historical restoration with modern training.
Credentials need to be findable. Ten-plus awards, a six-state license portfolio, and 25 years of recognized work were present on the original site — but structured in a way that required effort to discover. Moving that proof to the front of the experience changed what visitors encountered first.
Technical details are conversion barriers. A broken phone link on mobile, services hidden behind toggles, and a contact form only on the contact page all create friction that could turn away clients.
